The
day was September 4, 1993. Garth Brooks was performing at Texas Stadium.
Brandon was wide eyed, 18 years old, and had no idea what was about to
take place. Garth took the stage, and Brandon sat in awe of the events
taking place. The crowd, the lights, the noise, the energy – something
out of the ordinary was happening. It was in those moments, as he watched
Garth on stage that he realized what he wanted to do. It was in those
moments, he realized he wanted to use music to bring joy to the lives of
people. It was in those moments, the dream of Brandon Alan Makovy began…
Brandon was born and raised in College Station,
Texas. He is known by many as “BAM” because of his initials. Growing up,
music was never a big interest for him. His dreams were on the baseball
field. Baseball didn’t go the way he expected, and a few months after
finishing high school he attended the Garth Brooks concert. He decided
performing music is what he wanted to do. Soon after the concert, he
started writing songs. He taught himself how to play guitar and piano,
and began performing at various venues in College Station.
He recorded his first CD in 1998 entitled “BAM!” When he finished the CD,
he put his music on hold so he could focus on finishing college. He
graduated from Texas A&M University in May 2001 with a degree in public
relations. In January 2002 he went back to school to get his teacher
certification to become a high school math teacher.
In August 2002, he began
teaching math and coaching baseball at Duncanville High School in
Duncanville, Texas. Brandon moved to Katy, near Houston, in the
summer of 2007 to be closer to his family, and he is currently teaching
and coaching at Katy Taylor High School.
He is an avid baseball fan, and
loves playing fantasy baseball. He is quite the artist,
and has done oil paintings for several years. He enjoys dancing, fishing,
working out, and he is very involved with his church. He is a fluent
Spanish speaker, and his true passion lies in ministry to inner-city
youth.
He does music because he wants
to touch the hearts of people through the gift of song, and wants to bring
joy to their lives by what they hear. “I heard somewhere one time that
true good music will make someone laugh or make them cry. I want to find
a way to do both…to bring a joy to their hearts that brings tears to their
eyes. Now that’s cool.”
